Here is a question I received regarding low back rehabilitation and my answer. Please leave me your comments they would be much appreciated.

Q. Do you begin rehab by starting out with the swings, or by stretching hip flexors?
There seems to be a lot of debate as to which is the way to begin.

A. In response to your question about which to start people with swings or hip flexor stretches?  I think it depends on what your goals are.  My experience is that stretching the hip flexors, without activating the gluts doesn’t achieve much.  The hip flexors will just tighten up again in a short period of time.  But not everyone has de-activated gluts. If that is not a problem, then I think it would be fine to stretch.  I hope that helps. Thanks for the question.

Questions are great ways to stimulate discussion. Let me know what you are trying with your patients/clients!!

How does one check wether they have deactivated glutes or not? Im not in the medical field btw, just a kettlebell user who ha been having lower back problems these last few weeks.
I have done a lot of sitting down the last 5 weeks and no training whatsoever since November 09…i have a feeling this is definitely something to do with the cause of my pain……any advice would be good….glad i found this website.
